Dear Friend of POMS,
Greetings in His precious name!
We extend a warm welcome to you for your interest in the Pilgrim Overseas Missionary Society (POMS) and look forward to exploring with you what the group has to offer. We assure you that the time, and resources, you commit to POMS would definitely contribute to the upliftment of the church in Guyana.

Over the past twenty five years, POMS has supported the work of the church in Guyana in various ways. During that time, we have contributed towards the building or reconstruction of several churches including Parika, Nabaclis, Coffee Grove and others.  Recently, in response to an expressed need from the Mahaica church community, POMS helped raise funds to help this group purchase the land to build their own church. This was only possible because of people like yourself are committed to give to causes that are worthy for the glory of God.

Since POMS was born out of a concern for Camp Wesleyana, our interest in this work continues. We have since contributed towards the infrastructural development of Camp Wesleyana, supported youths attending the Wesleyana Bible Camps, and assisted in various projects planned for the camp site.  We join hands with Bro Albert Bruce and other groups in supporting the development of Camp Wesleyana.

Education is no less important.  Over the years POMS has established and ardently supported over twenty (20) students who attended, and are attending, high schools with rigorous academic programs in various regions of Guyana. Recently, and in response to a direct request, POMS has agreed to establish a program to support students who wish to continue their education through the University of Guyana. However, we would establish procedures to ensure our graduates themselves become the source for sustaining the program over time.

None of this could be accomplished without God’s guidance, without wise leadership, and without committed friends of POMS. We look forward to hearing your ideas for improving our programs and how you would like to contribute to the work in Guyana, and elsewhere.

Membership fees are $5 per month or $60 annually. Membership can be opened at any time during the year but should be renewed at the beginning of each calendar year. Active members of POMS are eligible to hold office and have a vote at our Annual Convention and Business Meeting. Members will be kept informed of programs, projects or plans through our quarterly newsletter and by information posted on our website.

Welcome! And God bless!
Gloria VanDecruze
President

Members Only

Scholarship Program

The Pilgrim Overseas Missionary Society scholarship program for Guyanese school children began in 2004 when the membership became greatly concerned about the academic preparation children in Guyana. Anecdotal stories of the difficulties children faced to attend and remain in school came to the attention of the membership. After extensive discussions, the executive committee proposed to the body to set up a scholarship program to provide a selected number of these students with annual scholarship. (Read More)

Youth Programs

POMS recognizes that the youths play an important role in the organization and therefore endeavors to develop programs of interest and relevance to them. Pastor Grantley Trotman, the current Youth Representative on POMS Executive Board, recently travelled to Guyana and met with several graduates of the scholarship program to plan and organize these efforts. The result was the creation of Poms Alumni and Beneficiaries Association (PABA) which will seek to fulfill this purpose. This year plans will be implemented to strengthen this relationship.  (Read More)
